An International Gathering to Celebrate
Chicago's Maritime Community
at the
Chicago History Museum
(Clark Street at North Avenue)
February 23, 2013The
10th annual Chicago Maritime Festival was held this past
February 22-26, 2012 at the Chicago History Museum, Old Town
School of Folk Music, the Chicago Maritime Museum Resource
Center, Corinthian Yacht Club, and various outreach locations.
It was attended by 3,227 people including over 1,888 students,
seniors, and people with disabilities who were involved in the
outreach programs as well as 303 students served at CHM during
the student concert. Because our 10th Anniversary coincided with
the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, we featured a number
of presentations about the War.
We would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to all of
the volunteers, presenters, performers, exhibitors, and sponsors
who helped, once again, to make this festival the largest and
most diverse event of its kind on the Great Lakes. It takes
quite a crew: there were 32 performers, 5 authors, and 4 visual
artists as part of 31 organizational or individual presenters in
53 workshops, seminars, demonstrations, and exhibits. The event
was sponsored, in part, by cash and in-kind donations from 51
individuals and organizations including grants from the Canadian
Consul General, the Illinois Arts Council and, for the first
time, the Chicago Yacht Club Foundation. There were 25 donors
for the silent auction and our staff and volunteers numbered 55.
Let us know if you would like to become involved in 2013; please
check out the calendar for important deadlines.
Look for updates to this site throughout the summer. We look
forward to seeing you at the 11th Annual Chicago Maritime
Festival on February 23, 2013. Fair winds! |
